The North High School Report – The Voice of Over 700 Students The goal of this report and reform plan is to change statistics, and to make North a school of excellence where all students learn, graduate, and have the opportunity to go on to college. This report outlines the findings of the North student survey, national education research findings, and our proposal for school reform. As North students, we believe that the voices of students are critical to the effort to improve North, and we are committed to working with the school and community to achieve this goal.

 

Student Voices Count Report REAL HARD youth organizers are working to increase student decision-making power and participation in Oakland high schools. In 2003, they designed and collected 1,000 report card surveys evaluating teaching, counseling, school safety and facilities at three Oakland high schools. The youth compiled their findings, analyzed the results, and made concrete recommendations to improve the schools in the Student Voices Count report.

 

School Excellence in Boston High Schools Student Researchers for High School Renewal is comprised of students from seven district high schools and one pilot high school who were trained to gather information that would increase the voice of Boston Public Schools students. In March 2003, 1,538 students at 12 district high schools and one pilot high school participated in the student survey. Data collected and analyzed made clear that all high schools have aspects of school climate that are in need of improvement. On June 4, 2003, SRHSR made a presentation of their general findings to the superintendent and individuals from the broader school community. This report represents the culmination of their year-long efforts and hard work.

 

Austin Voices for Education & Youth According to CIRCLE, AVEY is conducting research asking, "What changes do youth in Austin want for their high schools and how can they make their priorities heard during the reform process?"

 

Harmony School Education Center; Harmony/VISTA Service Learning Demonstration Project According to CIRCLE, high school students will explore student perceptions of the effects of small school reform.
