Adam Fletcher,
SoundOut Coordinator
Adam is
the founder and coordinator of SoundOut. An internationally recognized youth
engagement expert, Adam works with organizations and communities as
they recognize the changing roles of young people throughout society.
After working with the Washington State Office of Superintendent of
Public Instruction as their first
Student Engagement Specialist from 2000-2002, Adam founded SoundOut, a
nonprofit program focused on promoting student voice throughout
education. In the past five years Adam has partnered with more than 50
schools to promote student voice in schools. Based on his experience
and research, Adam developed the first comprehensive frameworks and
research summaries supporting the role of student voice and the
engagement of students as partners in school improvement.
Through
his work there Adam
works with schools, youth organizations, foundations, and government
agencies to provide training, technical assistance, and tools
focused on youth engagement throughout society.
Adam received his BA in cultural studies from The Evergreen State
College, and is currently pursuing a Masters in Educational Leadership
and Policy Studies from the University of Washington. He is the author
of the forthcoming SoundOut Student
Voice Curriculum and the
Washington Youth Voice Handbook, both published by
CommonAction, and is a contributing editor to the Review of
Education, Pedagogy, and Cultural Studies, an academic journal
published by Routledge.
