Hope Street Youth Organizing
A Wichita, Kansas-based group of young
people fighting for better communities, including schools. Areas of
action include alternatives to suspensions, ending zero-tolerance
policies, and implementing Black history education.
Students 4 Justice
This is the youth-led youth organizing arm of
Denver-based Colorado
Progressive Coalition. They work in three of Denver’s public high schools,
fighting for greater public school accountability and student voice.
Jovenes Unidos
Working with Padres Unidos, Jovenes
challenges the root cause of discrimination, racism and inequity by
exposing the economic, social and institutional basis for injustice as
well as developing effective strategies and tactics to change it in
our educational institutions.
Chicago Youth United
This coalition of youth
organizations in Chicago, Illinois, works to change school policies
and fight for resources for students across the city. School security
has been a top concern, and the group has lobbied for increased
training for security guards and a system that allows students to
anonymously report security concerns.
Youth Empowerment Project
This program in Columbus, Ohio engages homeless youth in working to
change funding. They have fought for funding increases for homeless
education and other issues.
Youth Working for Positive Change
This group in Des Moines,
Iowa have been working to tackle the problems in their neighborhood
for more than six years. One of the issues they address is education
reform.
